The Emotional Impact
Posted By: Brenden Kenny

Africa was the trip of a lifetime! I wouldn’t have thought this trip was possible three years ago—or ever—as I had been going through life on just an ordinary journey. But when Viridian entered my life in the winter of 2010, that journey would shift and start to become extraordinary.

When we arrived in the remote village of Asunafo, Ghana, I knew we were on a mission to make a positive impact on that community, but I wasn’t prepared emotionally to be overtaken by the happiness and appreciation of our visit. As leaders we all bonded together, and once we got our work orders we couldn’t wait to get started. I didn’t sleep that night because my every thought was, “How am I going to make an impact on these beautiful people?”

Once daylight hit our mission began. We all worked diligently and finished our project with pride as hundreds of children looked on in amazement and delight. What an incredible feeling! I am so grateful to be part of a company that cares and wants to make a difference.

I returned from Africa and immediately went into withdrawal; I couldn’t share my experiences for about 30 days, as I needed to process everything emotionally. Even now I can’t get through a day without reflecting on those smiles of God each of those precious children shared with us, every moment we were there.

I now know the best impact I can make for the people we met is by sharing our experiences with the many others who want to hear our story. Hopefully, they will want to make a difference as well. That would be amazing!

My name is Brenden Kenny, and I am Generation V.
