Not all music festivals are splattered with trash and waste tons of energy. This year marks the second annual Rock the Green outdoor music festival to promote sustainability and green living.
Presented by Veolia Environmental Services, the event is held in Milwaukee’s Veterans Park on September 15. The headlining act, Third Eye Blind, will be accompanied by Metric, Switchfoot and Atlas Genius; and local acts, Evan Christian, I'm Not a Pilot and Ikarus Down. The festival's side stage, which will feature smaller local acts, will be run entirely by green energy.
"Our music-driven platform educates attendees to learn about the many ways we can minimize our collective environmental impact," said Lindsay Stevens Gardner, founder and executive director of Rock the Green. "This diverse lineup includes bands from all parts of the world and reflects Rock the Green's mission to unite concert-goers through a shared music and sustainability experience."
The festival will have near-zero waste for a minimal carbon footprint, and will serve organic local cuisine to concert-goers. A lifestyle tent will educate people on how to live a sustainable life and reduce their waste. Grounds will also have fresh water stations for people to fill up water bottles given to each attendee upon entrance.
