Michael FitzPatrick: What Freedom and Independence Mean to You, Part 3

The lazy days of summer are over, and many people are rejuvenated, relaxed and tan. Taking time away from the hustle and bustle and noise is critical to a healthy well-balanced life. Now, another school year has begun, and the holidays are fast approaching!

At this time of the year, the concept of time and financial freedom are more relevant than ever. A lot of people got a “taste” of the good life during the summer months when they went on a vacation or took trips to the beach with their friends and family. Now, many of them head back to what they call “reality” or “the daily grind.”

In the first two parts of this series, (Part 1 and Part 2), I introduced the concepts of time and financial freedom. To bring it full circle, I want to talk about finding the right vehicle to take you down the road to achieving freedom in these two areas.

In general, people are now living longer than ever before, and costs for most things continue to rise. A longer life with higher costs means more expenses, so how do we find time and financial freedom for this long run?

We can cut expenses, but we can also look for ways to generate supplemental income. Network marketing, to me, is a great option for this. While it can be a career all on its own, many people pursue network marketing as a supplement to an existing job.

 Network marketing is a good choice because you can get tax benefits, you meet terrific people, and you grow as a person! But with so many choices, how do you choose the company that’s right for you?

When looking for a network marketing company, I would suggest you think about a quote that I have always followed. It was told to me by my grandfather: “People work hard for money, harder for people, and hardest for cause. So, define your cause.”

If you want to work hard and feel good about the work you do, find a company with a cause. Companies that know WHY they exist, and communicate from that perspective, are noticeably different than the companies that talk about features, benefits and price. Companies that challenge the status quo are ultimately the ones that change the world. I refer to these as “legacy companies.”

Think for a minute about some well-known companies and their tagline:

  • Microsoft: Be What’s Next
  • Dunkin Donuts®: America Runs On Dunkin’℠
  • Nike®: Just Do It
  • Berkshire Hathaway: Good To Know™
  • New York Times: All The News That’s Fit To Print

  • Better Business Bureau®: Start With Trust®
  • PayPal™: The safer, easier way to pay

What ultimately makes these companies unique is that each found a void in its marketplace and filled it not just with a product, but also by doing some soul searching about what impact each company wanted to have on the world.

So, let’s look at Viridian Energy and its tagline, “Power with Purpose.” While these words may seem simple, they were very strategically and carefully chosen to reflect the brand, community and culture of the company. Having been involved with Viridian for five years, I believe Viridian exists to:
