RFP Spotlight August 2013
In October 2010, Mary Juliano was introduced to the Residual Fundraising Program (RFP) by Peter Ryan. As the person who works with events and fundraising programs for St. Stephen’s Church and School in Warwick, NY, the decision to adopt the program made complete sense.
RFP was a complement to the many green programs St. Stephen’s already supported, including Earth Month, cellphone and printer cartridge recycling, upcycling, tag sales and donations.
For eight months before Viridian was actually in the Orange and Rockland market, Mary set out to build the infrastructure for her business. This included enrolling herself as an Associate once the market officially launched. Today, 15 of her Associates are active members of her church, so there are many Associates with a direct connection to St. Stephen’s as they talk to their friends and family about the business and becoming customers. Mary uses church bulletins to promote Associates and raise awareness of the opportunities that parishioners have to support local businesses through loyalty and a gift card programs.
“People have good intentions, but think that there is little to no effort going into selling the program. That is not the case. You really have to talk to and educate people. There needs to be a direct contact with the Associate. By having people connected to the church, we provide an indirect benefit to the school.”
Recently, the parish elementary school became a regional school with a fundraising goal they must meet. Now they are competing against nine other area parish schools undergoing the same transition. “As the person who chairs our largest and most laborintensive events/fundraisers each year at St. Stephen’s, programs like the RFP—noadditionalcost fundraisers — provide a huge assistance toward meeting our financial responsibilities.
“As we support our programs with no money out of our own pockets, we are raising funds by just going about our lives. Viridian’s RFP platform fits perfectly into that mindset. As our dollars continue to be stretched, we can count on funds raised from Viridian toward our bottom line.”
In September 2013, St. Stephen’s should rank to Director. “I am excited to be able to help St. Stephen’s business grow!”
