Charla Gervers -- Mayakoba 2016: We Came With Hope, and Left With a Dream

We’re back from Mayakoba… and we had a blast!

There’s so much to tell you all about this amazing trip that I’m not sure where to start! It was a week filled with magical moments, not one of them any less mind-blowing or inspiring than another—from exploring the amazing natural beauty of the Mexican Caribbean to the precious time spent getting to know some of the most positive and motivated people I’ve ever met in my life. I’m now even more convinced that Generation V fosters a unique community and at the same time a higher sense of purpose that simply can’t be found anywhere else—and I’m incredibly grateful to be a part of it.

The 50 Generation V achievers on the trip became my family (not just for the week—I’m pretty sure they’re stuck with me for life!), and the experience we shared changed us all for the better. There was an instant “You’re with us!” feeling among the group, where long-timers not only reconnected with old friends but welcomed the new people—two of whom started their Viridian business just this year—with open arms, integrating them without hesitation into the Viridian family. The level of genuine acceptance was amazing. It was clear that everyone felt free to be themselves, but they also felt part of something bigger. I know I experienced a powerful, elevated feeling of self-worth—of having something great to contribute to the world, and these people were here to help me do that.

Of course, all this didn’t come about without some unforgettable bonding experiences. In addition to our daily dose of “chill, relax, play,” we participated in a sustainability project to remove seaweed from the Mexican shoreline. Although the seaweed is beneficial to turtles in the open ocean, on the beach it presents a significant obstacle to adult turtles heading to shore for the nesting process; baby turtles, too, can become trapped in their efforts to reach the water. It felt great to know that we were making a difference together, beyond our usual boundaries.

We also visited some of Mexico’s most impressive sights, like the Mayan ruins of Tulum, where people took photos and explored the ruins up close, and boy was it hot that day! Thank goodness our next stop was the tropical paradise of the Xel-Ha water park. Some of us swam with dolphins, and two of our achievers went snorkeling for the first time! Some even tried swimming for the first time! (I LOVE seeing people expand their comfort zone right before my eyes, what a privilege!) And the food—the food was outstanding. We ate jumbo shrimp as big as your hand, sushi for breakfast, and sometimes up to 7 appetizers for dinner. But the pinnacle of craziness had to be the synchronized dive into the hotel pool on our last day of the trip. Picture 30 people doing all kinds of hilarious dives one right after the other—it was truly the ultimate demonstration of teamwork!

We celebrated in style, that’s for certain, but we had a lot to celebrate. Everyone in Generation V hopes to change the world, whether it’s about sharing our passion for more responsible energy choices and a more sustainable future, or about helping people to live their fullest, most satisfying lives. But I speak from experience when I say that going on a trip transforms that hope into something even more powerful: a dream you can touch and feel, that’s tangible and happening right before your eyes. The simple act of surrounding yourself with a steady diet of heart, commitment, and resolve makes you more resolved to change the world—you truly “get it.” On top of that, you’ve got your own personal army to support you.

Here’s what I hope you take away from this blog: Though it may seem like an unattainable goal, the next trip is within reach for each and every one of you. We had two new Associates in 2016 earn this trip to Mexico! The key is to make a decision! Start by registering and booking your room for PowerUP! 2016. Just like the incentive trips, Viridian’s annual convention is a game-changer, but in an even larger way. I promise you’ll be transformed into the person, leader, mentor and coach that you’re meant to be in Viridian, and return home to your family and friends feeling refreshed, energized, more knowledgeable and more committed than ever to change people’s lives. This is an investment in your business that will reward you for years to come!

My heart is changed forever as the result of each Viridian trip, and I know it will be the same for you. I look forward to meeting many more of you at the PowerUP! convention in September and watching your transformation into the leader you’re meant to become!
